Molly & Stitches
Illustration created by Raine
Molly has had the ability to talk to plush toys all her life. She is told on a daily basis that she has a problem which needs to be fixed. Growing up, her classmates would bully her and make her feel like she doesn't belong with them while the adults around her would tell her that she needs a doctor. As a teenager, Molly would become depressed and begin to accept that her ability is something she should hide and be ashamed of.
After years of torment and invalidation, she had lost her love for life. She began blocking out her stuffed friends' voices and eventually trained herself not to hear them anymore. She found herself a normal job and learned to live around normal people as an adult but she was never truly happy. She had all but forgotten about her ability until one day, while walking home from work, she heard a voice calling to her from a pile of rubbish. She pulled aside the rubbish to find a ripped lion stuffed toy. He was very hurt and pleaded with her to take him home which she did. She patched him up and they became best friends. They bonded over their experiences of being ostracised for being different, as Stitches had been thrown out for being broken.
Molly went on to reconnect with her old stuffed friends who welcomed her back with open arms. She would start a side business fixing up other people's stuffed toys which became really successful, allowing her to quit her day job to do what she loved full time.
